Calling all Model A enthusiasts!

MAYRA (Model A Youth Restoration Award) is seeking passionate individuals eager to partner with their local clubs to inspire the next generation of Model A lovers.

We're launching our brand-new MAYRA Youth Ambassador program, and we want you to be part of it. As an Ambassador, you'll open doors to mentorship, personal growth, and meaningful family involvement within your local club community.

What does an Ambassador do?

With guidance and support from the MAYRA board, you'll help plan engaging youth events, mentor young people working on their own Model A restorations, and play a vital role in shaping the future of our beloved hobby, all without a major time commitment.

Youth Ambassador Program

Calling all Model A enthusiasts!

MAYRA stands for Model A Youth Restoration Award, and we are the largest organization to date that aims to encourage a new generation of Model A Owners. MAYRA’s mission is to get and keep youth involved in the restoration of their Model A. We encourage the completion of the restoration by providing financial support in the hope that the award recipients will, as they age, maintain their interest in the Model A. Our goal is that the fruits of their labor, with our support, result in more Model A’s on the road, driven by the next generation. This end result will no doubt maintain the Model A hobby and its vendors for years to come.

However, there are many young people in our communities who have never heard of a Model A, much less seen one or had the opportunity to get up close. The national Model A organizations cannot singlehandedly expose the next generation, it is too grand a scale. The community outreach to educate youth about the Model A must be done by Model A Clubs and enthusiasts on a local level.

MAYRA’s goal is to have one member of every Model A Club as a proponent for MAYRA’s  “May is Model A Youth Month” and who strives to get youth involvement in general to become a routine part of club thinking. That person would be coined the ‘MAYRA Ambassador’. He or she would guide their club and encourage activities in May and year-round to introduce the Model A to youth in their community. MAYRA ambassadors are the people who ask the question as activities are planned, “how can we involve youth in what we are planning to do?”. We would like to see the mindset of the Club’s Officers and Board be thinking of involving youth in the discussion as normal, and our MAYRA ambassadors would be the first step of that plan.

MAYRA will maintain a roster of Clubs that have a MAYRA Ambassador and a running list of contact information for the Ambassadors. MAYRA will contact the Ambassadors every six months to receive a report on the status of club youth activities, making this the perfect role for someone supportive of youth involvement, but with smaller amounts of time to spare.

Ideally, we will have enough ambassadors registered that we will be able to hold meetings as a group, over Zoom. If the contact is on Zoom, club activity ideas can be shared, and experiences the clubs have been involved with. Things that didn’t work will be debriefed, to help future planning.  We would also hope that ambassadors make themselves known at national events, but national event involvement would not be a requirement as a MAYRA Ambassador.

MAYRA has many clubs that now contribute to the organization. Obviously, there is a belief in our mission and goals. These clubs, we hope, will be the first to identify a member as their MAYRA Ambassador.

If the club is not yet involved with youth activities, the Ambassador is someone who stands at a club meeting or in front of the Board and announces that he/she is a strong believer in supporting the Model A hobby. In further support of that, they feel that their club needs to become involved with introducing Model A’s to youth in their community.

Maintaining and growing the membership in the national Model A organizations is also a byproduct of this strategy. It can be a win-win for individual clubs and the national organizations. However, it starts with a club, in your community… perhaps it starts with you!
